FinOps for the Xero & QuickBooks APIs

Know which tenant is burning your Xero & QuickBooks API quota.

Xero and QuickBooks Online now bill for API egress and call volume — but their dashboards show only one app-wide total. Tierguard attributes every gigabyte and every call to the connected tenant that caused it, and alerts you before you cross your tier into overage.

Why now

Xero and QuickBooks API billing just got metered.

Xero now charges AUD $2.40/GB for API egress overage (live since 2 March 2026), and Intuit's QuickBooks CorePlus overage billing has been live since November 2025. One developer projected AUD $17,340/year from near-zero. The native portals still report app-level totals only — no per-tenant breakdown, no threshold alerts. You find out from the invoice.

How per-tenant API cost attribution works

Three steps, and no access to your financial data.

1

Instrument once

Add a one-line wrapper to your Xero/QBO client. It emits lightweight usage metadata — tenant reference, bytes, call count. Never transactions, never OAuth tokens.

2

Attribute

Tierguard rolls usage up per connected tenant and projects your month-to-date run-rate against the pricing tier you configure.

3

Alert

Get an email, Slack message, or webhook before you cross the threshold — naming the exact tenants driving the spend.

What you get

Per-tenant attribution

Every GB and every API call mapped to the connected org that caused it — the breakdown the native portals never show.

Pre-overage alerts

Run-rate projection vs your tier, with a warning before the overage charge — not after the invoice.

Metadata-only by design

Tierguard holds tenant refs and byte/call counters only. No financial data, no OAuth custody, nothing regulated.

Xero + QuickBooks Online

One cross-platform cost view across both accounting APIs — something neither vendor ships.

Alerts where you work

Email on every plan; Slack and webhooks on Starter and Pro; PagerDuty on Pro.

Fits a $6 box

Lightweight metadata ingestion — no heavy agent, no data warehouse, no headless browser.

FAQ

Do you store our financial data?

No. Tierguard only ever sees usage metadata — a tenant reference and byte/call counters. It never receives transactions, balances, or OAuth tokens.

Which platforms are supported?

Xero and QuickBooks Online, in one cross-platform cost view.

How is per-tenant attribution possible without access to our data?

You instrument your own API wrapper to emit one lightweight usage event per call. Tierguard aggregates the metadata; your data never leaves your systems.

Can I start for free?

Yes. The Free plan covers one connection with email alerts, no card required.

Stop finding out from the invoice.
